Face Changing Dentistry
Facelift dentistry is a comprehensive aesthetic transformation that goes beyond cosmetic dentistry and porcelain veneers. With this method, an improvement is realised in the jaw line and the entire face.
People do not want to get old even though they are getting older. One of the most important organs that support the facial structure is the teeth. While the teeth support the jaw, they also support these parts of the lip and cheek surrounding the jaw, almost acting as a carrier column for them.
What is Facelift Dentistry?
The reason why most of the patients consider having a facelift is premature aging in the chin and tickle area. FACELIFT DENTISTRY applications, also known as non-surgical facelift, aim to re-coordinate the face shape by rearranging the position of the chin.
Rearranging the chin position lifts the face. The soft tissues of the face support the new jaw position and the face in improving the shapes and angles of the size of the teeth. With this method, the teeth that provide lip support also support the improvement of wrinkles in the corners of the lips. The narrowing of the inside of the mouth, which causes snoring, is also eliminated by the addition to the teeth.
In other words, the aim of this treatment method is to correct the wear, deformation and position changes in the teeth, which are part of the skeletal system, to bring the jaw to its ideal position and to support the face again.
The teeth and jaw, which come to the ideal skeletal position, also provides automatic healing in the soft tissue it supports. This prevents premature aging and facial collapse and performs a facelift procedure in the sagging that has occurred in this area; It performs this stretching process without surgery.
What are the Health Benefits of Facelift Dentistry?
Patients to whom this treatment is applied generally say that the change in teeth creates a pilates effect on the face, that is, these people say that they feel fitter and healthier. They also state that they wake up more energetic in the morning, sleep more comfortably and breathe. In patients with problems in the jaw joint, there may be an improvement in the jaw joint with the improvement of the size of the teeth. They also mention a significant reduction in head and neck pain. In addition, people with intense teeth grinding say that they get rid of grinding when the teeth regain their original size.
Generally, the majority of patients who already suffer from tooth wear mention the problem of tongue biting. Because when the teeth are worn, the tongue cannot fit in the mouth and the person can bite his tongue or even his cheek from time to time. After the treatment, these complaints are completely eliminated as the enlarged mouth provides the tongue with a comfortable movement area. After this treatment, the majority of patients give feedback that “my chin feels like it is where it should be”.
The aim of holistic aesthetics is to improve the shape of the face, the profile of the face and the chin position. If there is a disorder in the jaw structure of the person from the beginning, the contact of the teeth with each other should be corrected. Orthodontic treatment is recommended here. Porcelain veneers and cosmetic dentistry applications are now required in cases where the teeth are very worn and have completely lost their vitality and structure.
How is Facelift Dentistry Application Performed?
Assessment
The person to whom this application will be performed is first informed about the treatment and how the treatment will be performed. The person needs to somehow understand whether he/she needs this treatment or whether he/she is suitable for this treatment because the current problem may sometimes be not eating, sometimes cold-hot sensitivity in the teeth, sometimes tongue biting or cheek biting. Sometimes the patient does not even know the cause of the problem. He/she may say, “My teeth are not as they used to be, they are very worn and that is why I do not eat salads. It is a pain for me to eat something cold and chew something hot”. In other words, the important issue is to listen to and evaluate the complaints of the person in making the diagnosis. After this preliminary interview, the analysis part begins.
Photographs are taken and analyses are made after the photographs are taken.
The shape of the face and the proportions on the face are analysed. The main thing here is to compare the distance between the tip of the nose and the tip of the chin with the distance between the tip of the nose and the eyeballs.
The lines on the face are analysed, especially the lines at the corner of the lips and near the nose.
At the same time, the size of the teeth and the relationship between the teeth are evaluated.
X-rays are taken and evaluated
The aim of both three-dimensional tomography, periapicals to be taken individually and a complete jaw film, i.e. panoramic film, is to evaluate the roots of the teeth to be reconstructed. Fillings, canal treatments, both lesions and caries are evaluated one by one, because if we are going to make a planning over the existing roots, the strength of those roots is very important for us.
Measurement Phase
Two methods are used in the measurement phase:
Top and bottom measurements are taken and a plaster model is obtained
With 3-dimensional scanners, the relationship between the lower and upper jaw and the lower and upper jaw is determined. The amount of abrasions and closures are evaluated here one by one.
It is necessary to take the existing bite records, that is, to take records of how the existing teeth are currently closing. In the meantime, the cause of the abrasion or bite problem and the discomfort caused by the patient must be questioned one by one. This questioning is done one by one both on the model, on the X-ray and according to the scan results.
Wax-Up and Mock-Up Application
If a new tooth is to be made and a new jaw structure is to be designed, we must first convey to our patient how this will be. In other words, the change in the teeth close to the original must be shown to the patient. Mock up is a pre-rehearsal of the new tooth to be made. Our patients can easily see the new image on their faces and get an idea about it.
Implementation of the Treatment
The treatment and its duration usually depends on the treatment to be performed and the method to be used. Sometimes the upgrades to be made with composites can be completed in one day, sometimes this application time is compatible with the duration of implant treatment in treatments that are accompanied by implant treatment.
What are the problems to be encountered after treatment?
It takes some time to adapt to chewing with teeth that have a new chewing surface. This is a process that varies from person to person. Chewing adaptation occurs between two weeks and four weeks. Occasionally, pain may occur in the facial muscles, this is due to the fact that the pilates effect that will occur with the change of chewing surfaces causes a move in the muscles in the first place. Facial yoga or physiotherapy can be recommended for the adaptation of facial muscles. Muscle relaxation movements with hot towel application are also recommended for our patients. Massage pens developed for the face are also very effective, especially in hardened and difficult to open muscles.
How can I adapt to my new facial appearance?
Massaging as much as possible, making movements to move the facial muscles as much as possible, provides adaptation to the new facial appearance. The change that will occur on the face is always a positive change. The change achieved with this treatment, which is a non-surgical face lift procedure, shows its effect by increasing day by day, that is, rejuvenation manifests itself by increasing day by day, opening the wrinkles, recovering the jowl area, and re-maturing the lips.
What is looked at in controls?
The night plate is definitely given to the patients, because in the beginning, the body may cause a grinding movement to break the restorations made in order to regain its old closure. For this reason, the use of a night plate is recommended especially for the first two months. Long-term use of the night plate is also necessary for both the continuity of the restorations and the permanence of the treatment.
In the controls performed every six months, both the teeth underneath and the teeth and gums are checked with X-rays, in other words, the controls continue in the same way as routine oral control.
