WHAT IS COMPOSITE LAMINATE?

Dentists often use composite filling materials to fill cavities, repair cracks and fractures in teeth and repair worn surfaces. Composite materials can be used for filling in the back group of teeth as well as in the front group of teeth as aesthetic materials.

WHO IS COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLIED TO?

  1. Those who are not satisfied with the color and shape of the tooth
  2. Those who are not satisfied with the size or shortness of the tooth
  3. Closing tooth gaps
  4. For those who want to change their tooth color by a few shades
  5. People with fractures in their teeth or teeth
  6. Those who have porcelain veneers and want to decide on a new tooth appearance by changing their veneers within a year or two
  7. Those who urgently need orthodontic treatment for a wedding or a similar special day and need an urgent aesthetic solution
  8. It can be applied to those with receding gums and intense discoloration between their teeth.

BEFORE COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLICATION

When deciding on composite lamina application;

To determine whether your dental problem can be solved directly with composite lamina, your dentist will first perform a comprehensive examination and evaluation of your teeth and gums.

During your examination, your dentist makes an assessment by looking at the decay, cracks, fractures and cavities in your teeth. Because if the PROBLEMS that cause this wear on the teeth are not eliminated, there will be problems in the composites in the future. For this reason, composite lamina application is not performed before the cause of the problems is eliminated.

Composite laminates are now long-lasting restorations with developing technology. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate natural teeth. If the natural teeth need to be whiter, teeth whitening method can be used for a white appearance beforehand. In addition, in order not to make excessively thick composite laminates, the crowding of the teeth is corrected with alignment treatments. In other words, a preliminary preparation is made for composite laminates.

Mock- Up application can also be done beforehand to help you decide on the new look of your teeth.

HOW ARE THE COMPOSITE APPLICATION STAGES?

With the mock-up made before composite lamina, the new tooth appearance is decided. For this, some preliminary applications are made to the tooth.

ADJUSTING THE GUM LEVEL

In order to improve the appearance of the teeth, it is sometimes necessary to adjust the gum level. While adjusting the gum level, a more aesthetic and symmetrical appearance can be achieved by using a laser device.

TOOTH DISCOLORATION

Teeth may also need to be lightened in order to provide aesthetic integrity. In particular, bleaching is used to lighten the colors of yellowed and old teeth. Home or office type whitening can be done in this process.

COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLICATION STAGES

DIRECT COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLICATION

Composite lamina application to be used in smile design is started by deciding on the shape and shape of the tooth to be made as a result of the examination performed beforehand. In the MOCK UP application, which is one of the most important stages of aesthetic dentistry and allows our patients to make decisions more easily, our patient’s taste and expectations are somehow understood.

These expectations and requests are evaluated for the last time and the process is started with the composite material color and the material in the layers to be used.

Direct composite bonding requires precise placement of the restorative material by the dentist. During this process, which requires great precision, the surface of the tooth is completely isolated from saliva, meaning that saliva should never touch the tooth during this application.

TOOTH PREPARATION

The tooth surface must be cleaned with special disinfectants and cleaners and prepared for the bonding process. In the bonding process, the outer surface is first cleaned, and if there is decay, the decays are cleaned. It is very important that the gums and gum tissue are free of bleeding and that there is no tartar. Such preparations must be made before composite lamination, in other words, tartar must be cleaned and the necessary oral care rules must be explained and conveyed to our patients one-to-one.

PLACEMENT OF THE COMPOSITE

The composite is adhered to the tooth in layers according to the color of the restoration to be made, while the appropriate colors are selected in the layers to ensure the transparency of the tip of the teeth and the whiter appearance of the tooth. Special composites are used in this application.

During this placement, the dental transplantation takes into account the patient’s face, nose, jaw tip, and the position of the lips and performs the placement process directly on the teeth, almost like a sculptor. After the composite is placed each time, the composite is hardened by irradiation with a radiation filling device.

SHAPING OF COMPOSITE LAMINATES

After the composites are placed and the hardening process takes place, the laminates are polished and adapted by sanding the upper surfaces in accordance with the shape of the face.  In the meantime, both micro and macro harmony of the teeth with the face is realized. The adaptations of the composites on the back of the teeth are corrected. Necessary areas for flossing are created. In other words, the tooth surface is prepared for both cleaning and aesthetic appearance.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION TIME OF COMPOSITE LAMINATES?

The application time of approximately six composite laminates is 2-2.5 hours. The new look is completed in a single session.

HOW SHOULD COMPOSITE LAMINATES BE MAINTAINED?

On the first day of composite laminates, tea, coffee, cola, cigarette use is prohibited for 24 hours. Because composites are not resistant to these types of colorants within 24 hours of hardening. Non-abrasive pastes are recommended during brushing. Normal tooth brushing and interface care should be performed according to the advice of the dentist. Night plaques help to prolong the use of composite laminates. Six-monthly check-ups are important for the long-term use of composite laminates.

WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLICATION?

The quality of the material used by the dentist can affect the lifetime of the work done. But at the same time, since the application of composite lamina is also shaped by the manual skill and ability of the practitioner, it determines the life of the composite laminate in the application. Mostly, the application is performed in a single session followed by a session control process. However, in some applications, several sessions may be needed for the shape and form to settle.

WHAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AFTER COMPOSITE LAMINATE APPLICATION?

  1. Oral and gum care should not be neglected after this application. However, it is important not to interrupt routine checks and to use the night plate regularly.
  2. Tea, coffee and smoking should be avoided for the first 24 hours.
  3. Tooth cleaning and interface care should be done routinely.

HOW MUCH DOES COMPOSITE LAMINA APPLICATION COST?

Composite lamina applications have price options that vary with the quality of the material used. One of the most important criteria affecting the price here is the work and labor of the application.

DO COMPOSITE LAMINAE BREAK?

It should be known that composite lamina application is a thin and delicate application to the tooth and that this application is a robust and durable treatment in terms of supporting the original tooth structure. However, it should also be known that anything that will damage the original tooth will damage the work. In case of a hard blow to the teeth, fracture may occur. In those who have a habit of grinding teeth, tooth fracture may occur.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF BONDING TREATMENT?

  1. It does not require any cutting and abrasion process on the teeth
  2. Providing a fine structure without creating any roughness in the intervals between the teeth
  3. Providing safe application for those who want to have porcelain lamina application but want to be sure of the appearance of their teeth first
  4. Easy application at the length of the teeth
  5. Generally, there is no need for local anesthesia before the application
  6. Finding a quick solution to any dental problem that may arise.
