İmplant

What is implant?

In dentistry, implant is a screw made of titanium or zirconium that is placed in the jawbone to support missing teeth. Implants are used to replace missing teeth and to improve the appearance and function of the mouth.
How is implant treatment applied?
After completing the oral examination and radiographic examinations of our patients, we complete our implant planning. Then, implants are placed in the jawbone in a completely sterile environment. Then, the implant osseointegration process is waited. After an average of 2.5-3 months of osseointegration process, the implants are opened and the prostheses are started to be made.

Is there pain during implant surgery?

The implant area is locally anesthetized before the implant operation. The operation is started after the effectiveness of the anesthesia is checked and complete anesthesia is ensured. This ensures that no pain or tingling is felt during the operation.

How long does implant surgery take?

The operation time varies depending on the size of the procedure to be performed. To give an idea, the placement of a single implant takes place within 15-20 minutes after the preparation and anesthesia procedures are completed.

Is there pain after implant surgery?

A small amount of pain can occur after implant surgery, as with any surgical procedure. This pain is not a very severe and unbearable pain, but a mild pain that can be controlled with painkillers.

Do you need to take medicine after implant surgery?

After implant surgery, we prescribe antibiotics, pain relievers, and mouthwash to our patients to prevent the area from becoming infected and to prevent pain. If there is any other drug requirement, we can add to the prescription and inform our patients.

Is there swelling after implant surgery?

There is not a very severe swelling in routine implant applications. However, swelling may be observed in the first 3 days after large operations where a large number of implants are performed. To control the amount of swelling and keep the swelling to a minimum, we apply cold to the area on the first day.

Who can have implants and who cannot?

It was previously believed that implants cannot be placed in areas where the bone is thin, and that implants cannot be placed in people with various systemic problems such as diabetes, heart problems. We still receive a lot of questions in this way. But now, with the development of bone formation techniques, such as bone grafting and stem cell applications, we can increase the bone mass in areas where the bone is insufficient and perform implant application.
In systemic diseases, the important factor is whether our patients are under control. In every case except for some bone diseases, we consult the doctor who controls the treatment and plan the treatment process together and perform the implant operation.

What should we pay attention to after implant application?

We place a sterile sponge as a tampon in the area after the operation to control bleeding in that area. You should bite the sponge we have placed for 30 minutes. Do not use any other product instead of the tampon. Especially using materials such as cotton and tissue can cause bleeding and infection.
You should not spit or rinse your mouth throughout the day to prevent bleeding after implant application. You should try to avoid hot and acidic drinks on the day of the procedure. If you smoke, it is very important that you do not smoke especially in the first three days for the healthy healing of the area.
Do not eat or drink anything for at least 2 hours after the operation. Do not use the side where the implant is applied while chewing food. You should stay away from alcohol for 48 hours after the implant operation.
You should use the medications in the prescription we wrote by following all the recommendations. You should avoid taking a hot shower and exercising on the day of the operation.
Do not poke the implant site with your finger or toothpicks.
Keeping the area clean is very important for the problem-free occurrence of healing. The area should be brushed gently after the first day and the recommended mouthwashes should be used.
