Sinus Lift

Enlargement of the Sinus

With the loss of teeth, especially the loss of the back teeth, there is an expansion of the sinus.

In cases where the sinus is widened and the bone is thinned and reduced, avoiding the sinus is a method to place the implant towards the more anterior region or to avoid the posterior region. In cases where all of these are not possible in an area where the bone is very thin, it is necessary to perform a procedure on the sinus before or in addition to the implant surgery.

Radiographic Examination

Three-dimensional tomography imaging is performed to evaluate the thinness of the inner wall of the sinus and the outer wall of the sinus bone, as well as to evaluate the sinus structure. In this imaging, it is also possible to examine bone density. As a result of the grading of bone density, the hardest areas of the thinned bone are used to fill the expanded structure of the sinus to make room for the implant, the name of this procedure is ‘Sinus lifting’.

How is Sinus Lift Performed?

After deciding on the implant size and prosthesis to be placed, the doctor also determines the amount of work to be done in the sinus. For this, the expanded sinus area is filled for the implant using artificial or the person's own bone. This procedure is performed with local anesthesia. The local anesthesia is sufficient for this procedure. Bone powder and blood tissue obtained from the person are placed through the sinus window opened by the doctor.

Implants are placed during the procedure, or the placement of the implant can be postponed until later. After waiting approximately six months, the implant-top coatings can be applied.

The doctor can measure whether the implant is holding or not with special devices. This measurement makes it safer to place teeth on the implant.
