Zirconium
Dental crowns are used to cover a tooth or dental implant.
In dentistry, teeth are coated to support a weak tooth and/or tooth tissue. The material used in dental coating must be resistant to many chewing pressures. It also needs to be compatible with biology. In this context, zirconium coatings can be used in the construction of both dental crowns and bridges. At the same time, it is used in implant-supported coatings and full arch rehabilitations in line with developing digital technologies.
Aesthetic Perfection: Provides a natural tooth appearance.
Durability: Made from high quality materials for long-lasting results.
Stain Resistance: It is less prone to staining than natural teeth.
Caries Prevention: Filling a cavity stops further decay.
Pain Relief: It relieves discomfort caused by cavities.
Functionality: Restores normal chewing and biting function.
Aesthetic Improvement: Fillings can improve the appearance of damaged or decayed teeth.
Procedure
There are three main procedures in the production of zirconium coatings. After the placement of zirconium crowns in the mouth, checks should be made every six months. In the six-month checks, the adaptation of the crowns, their relationship with the opposite tooth and gum health are examined and necessary arrangements are made in this regard. Thus; the crowns are ensured to serve in the mouth for 10-15 years.
Taking Measurements
After the tooth is cut, measurements are taken using classical methods and the treatment is completed by performing the substructure and then the superstructure procedure within 4-5 days.
Digital Measure
After the tooth is cut, digital measurements are taken and the tooth is installed on the same day.
Tooth Preparation

What are the Zirconium Brands?
The most frequently asked question by our patients regarding zirconium coatings is the brand of the coating. Because the question that many patients have in mind regarding this issue is whether zirconium coatings are made in China or Germany. There are many brands of zirconium coatings. Lava, Vita, Zironzahn. All these brands provide quality and aesthetic results. Using quality materials is always important for a beautiful treatment.
Zirconium Crown Types
Zirconium coatings can be made as individual teeth or in the form of bridges. In addition to zirconium coatings resistant to teeth grinding for patients who grind their teeth, there are also monolithic zirconiums consisting entirely of zirconium coatings. With the development of digital technology, zirconium brands and applications are diversifying day by day.
Durability of Zirconium Coating
Zirconiums offer safe chewing resistance. A strong material is required for crown construction. Therefore, it can be used easily in every area of the mouth, both on the front and back teeth. Since zirconium coatings are biocompatible with the tissue, they do not cause allergies, and since they are fully compatible with the oral tissues, they do not cause gum problems in cases where oral hygiene is good.
Thanks to developing digital technologies, since the measurement taken can be produced with computer support using special scrapers, it is possible to make zirconium coatings on the same day. With this system, it is also possible to produce the zirconium coating to be used entirely from a single piece of zirconium.
Procedure for Making Zirconium Coatings
There are three main procedures for making zirconium coatings.
- After the tooth is cut, measurements are taken using classical methods and the treatment is completed within 4-5 days by first performing the substructure and then the superstructure procedure.
- After the tooth is cut, digital measurements are taken and the tooth is installed on the same day.
- Taking a digital impression and doing a trial first, then fitting the tooth
Preparation of the Tooth
Your dentist follows this path in this procedure.
- Application of local anesthesia to the tooth (no anesthesia is required for teeth with root canal treatment)
- If there is a previous coating on the tooth, the coating is removed. If there is decay or a problem underneath, these are removed and treated. If there is no coating on the tooth, the tooth is cut. Our patients do not feel any pain or ache during the cutting process.
Tooth Size
- Tooth measurements are taken manually or digitally.
- Impressions are taken for temporary teeth application.
- The impression is sent to the laboratory in digital format or with impression material. A design suitable for the mouth structure is made.
Laboratory Phase
- The harmony between the technician and the dentist is very important to ensure that the veneers fit perfectly with the teeth. The technician checks the measurement and requests adjustments from the dentist if necessary. Thus, the production phase of a veneer that will be comfortable for our patient in the future is started.
- During the design process, the physician and the technician are in dialogue because each treatment is designed to be personalized.
Proofing Stage of Zirconium Coatings
The new crown is placed in the patient's mouth. The marginal fit, the contacts of the tooth, the fit with the opposite tooth, the color and shape are tested. If necessary, it is processed again in the laboratory to be polished and to regain its shape, and it is placed in the mouth on the same day.
Same Day Procedure for Zirconium Veneers
- The tooth is prepared using local anesthesia. (The cutting technique in digital systems has minor differences compared to other techniques. The dentist performs the cut by taking this into consideration.)
- Digital measurements are taken.
- The design is carried out in collaboration between the physician and the technician. During this time, photographs and patient videos are used for color and shape determination.
- Zirconium crowns are produced with special scrapers. The type of zirconium is also decided during the design.
- It is placed on the tooth on the same day.
After the placement of zirconium crowns in the mouth, checks should be done every six months. During the six-month checks, the adaptation of the crowns, their relationship with the opposite tooth and gum health are examined and necessary arrangements are made in this regard. Thus; the crowns are ensured to serve in the mouth for 10-15 years.
Advantages of Zirconium Coatings
- For those who want to have an aesthetic smile, zirconium coatings will be an extremely good choice.
- They are in an alloy close to the natural tooth color. Being white and durable provides a great advantage.
- They do not cause bad breath.
- Since they are compatible with the gums, they do not cause gum recession.
- They do not cause a purple appearance on the gums.
- Since they are compatible with digital technologies, they provide tooth production in a short time with developing software.
- Zirconia ceramics containing zircon element are resistant to fracture like classical metal-supported ceramics.
- With the advancement of technology, costs are not as high as before.
- Zirconium coatings, such as monolithic zirconium, are highly resistant to large pressure changes.
What are the Benefits of Zirconium Dental Treatment?
When there is a loss of substance in the tooth, the coatings made for the purpose of providing a complete adaptation in implant-supported coatings provide considerable advantages. They have a very strong feature in replacing the dental tissues and resisting the dental pressures. Unlike porcelain coatings, these coatings are not dark in color. They do not cause a purple reflection in the gums.
Are Zirconium Dental Veneers Long Lasting?
As with all coatings, zirconium coatings have a long life with good care and regular dentist control.
What is the Cost of Zirconium Dental Application?
Although zirconium coatings have variable prices depending on the material used, they are now more affordable with the development of technology. Long-term use and the protection of appearance and gums during use make zirconium applications less costly in the long run.
