Composite Lamina
Composite veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that uses a composite resin material applied to teeth to improve their appearance. This technique is used to correct issues such as discoloration, minor misalignment, cracks or gaps.
Aesthetic: Improves the appearance of teeth.
Time Efficient: It is usually completed in a single visit.
Versatile: Addresses various aesthetic issues.
Recyclable: It is less permanent than porcelain veneers.
Procedure
The treatment process for composite veneers typically begins with a consultation to assess patient suitability and discuss desired outcomes. This approach requires zero tooth preparation and is followed by direct application of the composite resin material. The material is then carefully shaped and polished to achieve the desired aesthetic result.

What is Composite Laminate?
Dentists often use composite filling materials to fill gaps, repair cracks and fractures in teeth, and repair worn surfaces. Composite materials can be used as fillings in the back teeth as well as aesthetic materials in the front teeth.
Who can use Composite Laminates?
- Those who are not satisfied with the color and shape of their teeth
- Those who are not satisfied with the size or shortness of their teeth
- Closing of tooth gaps
- For those who want to change their teeth color by a few tones
- Those who have fractures in their teeth or teeth
- Those who have porcelain veneers and want to change their veneers within a year or two and decide on a new dental appearance.
- For those who urgently need orthodontic treatment for use on a wedding or similar special day, but need an urgent aesthetic solution.
- It can be applied to those with receding gums and intense discoloration between their teeth.
Before Composite Laminate Application
When deciding on composite laminate application;
To determine whether your dental problem can be solved with composite veneers, your dentist will first conduct a comprehensive examination and evaluation of your teeth and gums.
Your dentist will make an assessment by looking at the cavities, cracks, breaks and gaps in your teeth while performing your examination. Because if the PROBLEMS that cause this wear on your teeth are not resolved, there will be future problems with the composites. For this reason, composite laminate application is not done without resolving the cause of the problems.
Composite laminates are now long-lasting restorations with developing technology. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate natural teeth. If natural teeth need to be whiter, teeth whitening method can be used for a whiter appearance beforehand. In addition, in order not to make excessively thick composite laminates, the irregularities in the teeth are corrected with alignment treatments. In other words, a preliminary preparation is made for composite laminates.
A mock-up application can also be done beforehand to help you decide on the new appearance of your teeth.
How are the Composite Application Steps Performed?
The appearance of the new tooth is decided with the mock-up made before the composite laminate. For this, some preliminary applications are made to the tooth.
Adjusting Gum Level
Sometimes the gum level needs to be adjusted to correct the appearance of the teeth. A more aesthetic and symmetrical appearance can be achieved by using a laser device when adjusting the gum level.
Lightening of Tooth Color
In order to provide aesthetic integrity, the teeth may also need to be lightened. Whitening is used to lighten the color of yellowed and worn teeth in particular. Home or office type whitening can be done for this purpose.
Composite Laminate Application Stages
Direct Composite Laminate Application
The composite laminate application to be used in smile design begins with the decision on the shape and form of the tooth to be applied as a result of the examination performed beforehand. In the MOCK UP application, which is one of the most important stages of aesthetic dentistry and allows our patients to make decisions more easily, our patient's taste and expectations are somehow understood.
These expectations and requests are evaluated for the last time and the process begins after the composite material color and the material in the layers to be used have been decided.
Direct composite bonding requires precise placement of the restorative material by the dentist. During this highly precise procedure, the tooth surface is completely sealed from saliva, meaning that saliva should never come into contact with the tooth during this procedure.
Tooth Preparation
The tooth surface must be cleaned with special disinfectants and cleaners to prepare it for the bonding process. In the bonding process, the outer surface is first cleaned, and if there is any decay, the decay is cleaned. It is very important that the gums and gum tissue are bleeding-free and free of tartar. Such preparations must be made before the composite laminate, in other words, tartar must be cleaned and the rules regarding necessary oral care must be explained to our patients one-on-one.
Compounding of the Law
According to the color of the restoration to be made, the composite is bonded to the tooth in layers, and during this time, appropriate colors are selected for the layers to ensure the transparency of the tip of the teeth and to provide a whiter appearance to the tooth. Special composites are used in this application.
During this placement, the dental transplanter places the patient's face, nose, chin, and lips directly on the teeth, like a sculptor, taking into account the position. Each time, after the composite is placed, it is hardened by irradiation with a light filling device.
Shaping of Composite Laminates
After the composites are placed and the hardening process is completed, the laminates are polished and adapted by sanding their upper surfaces in accordance with the shape of the face. During this time, both micro and macro harmony of the teeth with the face is achieved. The adaptations of the composites on the back surfaces of the teeth are corrected. The necessary areas for the use of dental floss are created. In other words, the tooth surface is prepared for both cleaning and aesthetic appearance.
What is the Application Time of Composite Laminates?
The application time for approximately six composite laminates is 2-2.5 hours. The new appearance is completed in a single session.
How Should Composite Laminates Be Maintained?
On the first day when composite laminates are made, tea, coffee, cola and cigarettes are prohibited for 24 hours. Because composites are not resistant to these types of colorants within 24 hours of hardening. Non-abrasive pastes are recommended during brushing. Normal tooth brushing and interdental care should be performed according to the dentist's advice. Night plates are helpful for longer use of composite laminates. It is important to come for check-ups every six months for long-term use of composite laminates.
What is the Life Span of Composite Laminate Application?
The quality of the material used by the dentist can affect the life of the work done. However, since the composite laminate application is also shaped by the dexterity and talent of the practitioner, it determines the life of the composite laminate in practice. The application is usually done in a single session, followed by a control session. However, in some applications, several sessions may be needed for the shape and form to settle.
What Should Be Considered After Composite Laminate Application?
- After this procedure, oral and gum care should not be neglected. However, it is important not to skip routine check-ups and to use the night plate regularly.
- Tea, coffee and cigarettes should not be consumed for the first 24 hours.
- Dental cleaning and interdental care should be done routinely.
What is the Price of Composite Laminate Application?
Composite laminate applications have varying price options depending on the quality of the material used. One of the most important criteria affecting the price here is the work and workmanship of the application.
Do Composite Laminates Break?
It should be known that the composite laminate application is a thin and delicate application applied to the tooth and that this application is a solid and durable treatment in terms of supporting the original structure of the tooth. However, it should also be known that anything that will damage the original tooth will damage the work. If the teeth are hit hard, they may break. Those who have a tooth grinding habit may break the tooth.
What are the advantages of Bonding Treatment?
- Does not require any cutting or abrasive process on the teeth
- Providing a fine structure without creating any roughness in the spaces between the teeth.
- It provides safe application for those who want to have porcelain laminate application but want to be sure about the appearance of their teeth first.
- Easy application to teeth lengths
- Generally, there is no need for local anesthesia before application.
- Finding a quick solution to any dental problem that may occur
