Laser Teeth Whitening
Nowadays, the slogan of every individual is "A better look". When I say a better look, I mean physical appearance. Well-groomed hair, well-groomed skin and well-groomed teeth.
In order for teeth to have a well-groomed appearance, they should be free of stains and have a white and shiny appearance. Of course, gum health should also be in place, but that is a separate topic.
There are various reasons why teeth appear dark. Some are naturally yellow or stained. In the past, this was a person's fate. But today, it is possible to solve yellow and stained teeth with many whitening methods. Many whitening methods and techniques can make your teeth look whiter. You can find general information about one of these methods, laser teeth whitening, in our blog post.
First of all, who can benefit from Laser Teeth Whitening Methods?
- It can be applied to people whose teeth have yellowed over time. It can be applied to people who had white teeth when they were young but their teeth have yellowed over time. Even if these individuals take great care of their teeth, the enamel layer thins over time and the color of the dentin layer, which gives color to the actual tooth underneath, becomes more obvious, making the tooth appear more yellow.
- Some types of antibiotics should not be used under the age of 12. These antibiotics are tetracycline group antibiotics. They cause yellow or even brown discoloration on teeth. Unless there is very intense staining, they can be removed with whitening.
- Fluorosis is the discoloration present in the inner part of the tooth.
- Individuals with naturally yellow teeth. (Just like some people have black hair and some have yellow hair.) The color of the teeth can also vary from person to person. Especially people with fair skin have yellower teeth.
- When performing an aesthetic dental application and wanting the restoration to be white, the lower teeth must also be lightened.
- It is applied to teeth that are damaged as a result of root canal treatment or trauma and change color by becoming bruised.
- Teeth turn yellow and change color as a result of febrile diseases experienced before their development is completed in the mouth.
Who Cannot Get Laser Teeth Whitening?
- For individuals under 18 years of age
- To pregnant individuals
- Those who consume tea and cigarettes heavily and cannot limit their use during treatment.
- In those who are allergic to the solution used
- In cases where the root surfaces of the teeth are exposed due to cracks, fractures and gum recession.
- Those with porcelain and composite restorations on their teeth.
How is Laser Teeth Whitening Applied?
First, it is evaluated whether the tooth structure and the person are suitable for this treatment. In suitable individuals, a photograph is definitely taken. The initial state of the tooth color is recorded. If the coloration on the person's teeth is dark and stubborn, home-type whitening should be done.
Before laser whitening;
- Teeth should be brushed with a fluoride-free paste. (Before the person comes to the session)
- Teeth are cleaned with pumice (at the beginning of the whitening session)
- Gums and lips are protected with special protectors.
- Whitening gel-powder is applied to the teeth and each area is exposed to 30 seconds of radiation. This radiation time varies depending on the device and gel used for each tooth.
- The session is completed by removing the protective gel and protective barriers. If necessary, home whitening is continued.
- If home whitening is not to be continued, the individual must stay away from beverages and foods that may cause tooth discoloration, such as tea, coffee and cigarettes, for 24 hours.
How Long Does Laser Teeth Whitening Last?
This period varies from person to person. It can generally last 2-3 years. During this period, the amount of tea and coffee consumed and oral care are very important. If attention is paid to tea and coffee consumption and oral care is done well, this period can be extended. In the opposite case, the period is shortened.
If teeth whitening by-products are used with a doctor's advice, this period will be extended.
