Implant in Case of Bone Insufficiency

Insufficient bone in the jaw is a significant problem for patients who are planning dental implant treatment. A certain amount of bone tissue is required for dental implants to be safely placed in the jawbone and to be long-lasting. However, due to tooth loss, age, trauma, infection or periodontal disease, the jawbone may melt and thin. In this case, it is determined that there is not enough bone tissue for the implant to be placed. Insufficient bone directly affects the stability and success of the implant, so in such cases, surgical methods that increase the amount of bone come into play.

Successful Implant Treatment: Thanks to developing surgical techniques and biomaterials, it is possible to increase bone volume and create a suitable environment for implants.

Rééducation à long terme avec implant : Thanks to these methods, successful implant treatment can be carried out and the long-term oral health of patients can be protected.

Procedure

A certain amount of bone tissue is required for dental implants to be securely placed in the jawbone and to be long-lasting.

Comprehensive Assessment

Determining the extent of bone insufficiency with three-dimensional imaging and deciding on surgery to be performed.

Surgical Stage

Surgical stage using bone graft to obtain bone volume to place implants under local anesthesia.

The Healing Process

Post-surgical care and follow-up recommendations.

Treatment Methods Applied in Case of Bone Insufficiency

  1. Bone Graft (Grafting): Bone grafting is one of the most common methods used to increase insufficient bone volume. In the grafting process, bone tissue taken from the patient's own body (autograft), from a donor (allograft), or from synthetic materials (alloplast) is added to the missing area. This process ensures that sufficient bone volume is created in the area where the implant will be placed. After the graft is applied, it may be necessary to wait a few months for the new bone tissue to develop.
  2. Sinus Lift (Sinus Lift): When implants need to be placed, especially in the back areas of the upper jaw, a sinus lift is performed. Sinus lift is the process of lifting the sinus membrane and placing a bone graft underneath when the amount of bone under the sinus cavity is insufficient. In this way, sufficient bone tissue is obtained to place the implant.
  3. Ridge Split (Bone Expansion): In cases where the jawbone volume is reduced due to tooth loss, a bone expansion procedure can be performed. In this technique, the jawbone is surgically separated to provide sufficient width for implant placement, and then a bone graft is applied to the area.
  4. Block Bone Graft: In this technique, larger bone pieces (blocks) taken from the patient's jaw or another body part are placed in the missing area. This method is used in areas where there is large bone loss.
  5. Distraction Osteogenesis : This technique allows the bone to be gradually expanded using its natural growth capacity. The bone is surgically divided into two and the space between these sections is expanded over time with the help of a special device. This space is filled with new bone tissue and sufficient space is created for the implant.

Conclusion:

Insufficient bone does not make dental implant treatment impossible. Thanks to developing surgical techniques and biomaterials, it is possible to increase bone volume and create a suitable environment for the implant. The treatment plan is determined individually and the method applied may vary depending on the patient's general health status, the amount of bone loss and the area where the implant will be made. With these methods, successful implant treatment can be carried out and the long-term oral health of the patients can be protected.
