During the hot months of Ramadan, oral and dental health is as important as nutrition. Because nutrition begins in the mouth and teeth. There can be no healthy nutrition without a healthy mouth.
Our teeth are protected by saliva as well as brushing. Since teeth are not brushed during the day and there is no fluid consumption, saliva minerals and food residues that cause the formation of the structure we call dental plaque easily settle on the surface of the teeth. For this reason, brushing teeth at sahur is very important.
Brushing your teeth after a meal in the middle of your sleep, especially during sahur, may seem like a pain, but it is very important. It should not be forgotten that the teeth cleaning you do during sahur will protect your teeth all day long. Therefore, foods on the rough surface of the tongue should be brushed.
The tongue should be brought forward as much as possible and cleaned thoroughly with a toothbrush or a tongue brush designed specifically for this purpose. In addition to cleaning all of the teeth, cleaning between the teeth is also very important.
Dental floss and interdental irrigators can be used to clean between teeth. Those who enjoy using electronic devices can also perform oral care with electric brushes and mouthwashes.
MOUTH GARNISHES: Mouthwashes, which are among the essentials of oral care, prevent the formation of "BAD ODOR" by creating an antibacterial area around the teeth. "BAD ODOR" occurs physiologically during Ramadan because hunger triggers it. This is natural, but bad breath caused by tartar or tooth decay is quite intense and disturbing. Therefore, in order not to cause problems for the environment, intense bad breath should definitely be resolved by consulting a dentist. Because bad breath can be a sign of a cavity or gum problem, and should not be ignored.
A piece of parsley and a piece of mint at the end of the meal at sahur helps digestion and also relieves the breath.
With its antibacterial effect, green tea can be consumed between iftar and sahur. If there is “DRY MOUTH”, it is necessary to take care of your mouth after sahur and use artificial “Saliva support gel” containing special enzymes before going to bed. These gels relieve dry mouth and at the same time form a protective layer on the teeth and gum tissue.
It can also be applied during the day to ensure the protective layer continues throughout the day.
It should not be forgotten that while performing our worship, we should not neglect the protection of our teeth, which should serve the mouth for a lifetime, and we should not harm our environment with “BAD BREAST”.
