In today's stressful world, although there are many ways to cope with stress, teeth grinding has increased day by day. Some of our patients are aware of this. However, people who do not listen to themselves try to cope with complaints such as my filling broke, my teeth hurt or my jaw hurts. For this reason, when their teeth break or the implant crown comes off or breaks, they can have wrong thoughts such as "Doctor, this tooth you applied is broken or I do not have this crown".
WHAT IS BRUXISM?
HOW CAN A PERSON KNOW IF HE HAS BRUXISM?
- Do you feel pain in your facial muscles when you wake up in the morning?
- When you first open your mouth in the morning, is it forced open like a vice?
- Do you experience pain in your temples and fatigue in your face?
- Have you had any tooth sensitivity or glare lately?
- Do your veneers come off on their own?
- Are your front teeth sensitive, brittle or worn?
If you have one or more of these, you probably have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF BOTULINUM TOXIN APPLICATION IN BRUXISM?
It is the method of applying botulinum toxin into the muscle. Botulinum toxin, which is also applied to the facial muscles, is usually done to eliminate facial lines. It creates a relaxation effect in the muscles and creates temporary relaxation in the masseter muscle. The application to the masseter muscle is effective for 3-6 months. Relaxation begins 3-5 days after the application. The effect period is completed in 10-12 days and the muscle moves loosely.
